Mouth Care

Overview
This project was designed when I worked as a Digital Designer for eLearning in NHS Trust. I designed the update version online course for the clinical staff on Learning Management System. Close communication with stakeholders and especially with the programmer in the same team was the key to successfully finish the course on time.
-
Wordy content ; more than half of the screen was mere texts
-
Some oral symptoms photos aren’t pleasant, but they are essential to remind clinical staff what to be aware of visually.
-
No clear explanations for different types of brushes and usages.
What were the problems of original Mouth Care course?
What did we do?
-
Restructure and rewrite texts to make content more digestible
-
Consistent visual style with NHS blue but added brighter colours to make stronger visual contrast
-
Applied interactions to guide users’ visual focus
-
Apply more illustrations related to mouth to demonstrate learning concepts

Rewrote the content of different types of brushes to differentiate them and add a few questions to the quiz. Put the images of varying brushes on the same screen to enable users to compare them easily

Emphasise the importance of dignity and comfort to patients.

Result and Impact
-
Save roughly one-third of the time finished the course because of fewer texts and the restructured content
-
The positive feedback on the new visual style and interesting interactions made learning concepts clear, engaging, and digestible
-
No web users getting lost while taking the online course after the new design
Thanks for your time!
